Your Guide: Sara Butters
Hi, I’m Sara, the founder of Hawthorn & Honey. Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, I bring a lifetime of connection to the flora of this region, enriched from an early age by the wisdom and teachings of local herbalists. Formally, I have studied with renowned herbalist Susun Weed, completed a yearlong wildcrafting apprenticeship at Cedar Mountain Herb School, and completed The Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine Immersion Program. I am now working on the clinical herbalism program at The Eclectic School of Herbal Medicine while running Hawthorn & Honey. For years, I’ve been the community member that neighbors and friends come to with wellness and foraging questions, and I’m thrilled to extend these conversations to plant enthusiasts in the Tacoma area. I believe we all have a plant-spirit connection, but it gets buried in early childhood, lying dormant until we wake it up. The plants are alive and have things to teach us. Connecting with the plant world isn’t just for a few select people; it’s for EVERYONE.
Check out my About page to learn more about my personal herbal journey. What to Expect: Individual and Small-Group Foraging WorkshopAfter you sign up for this foraging workshop, we’ll choose a date that works for your schedule, and we’ll talk about the kind of experience you’d like to have. I might ask about what you’d like to learn, what type of recipes you’d like to make, and whether you want to head into the mountains or stick to beaches and parks in the Tacoma area. I will ask what your physical ability is and plan accordingly. The location we choose will also depend on the time of year. Depending on what you’re looking for, we’ll spend 5-7 hours together. Every part of our session, including processing the plants, will be outdoors. I will supply you with a list of items to bring. We will maintain social distancing, so masks are not required while outdoors.I look forward to our adventure together!xoxo,
Sara
